Missions

"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations..."

Matthew 28:19

From the beginning, God's plan of salvation has been to reconcile worshipers to Himself through the saving work of Jesus Christ.
We desire to proclaim a clear Gospel as we express Christ-like love to our neighbors and to people in every nation.
We see our mission field in three divisions: Community, Country, and Continents.

Community

Homeless

Our members volunteer multiple times each year to serve meals and the Bread of Life to homeless people through Angelic Ministries in Knoxville.

Special Needs Adults

The Tennessee Baptist Adult Homes provide safe housing and care for special needs adults who cannot live independently. We support the homes with financial assistance and property maintenance.

Crisis Pregnancies

We support Choices Resource Center through fundraising activities and donations to further their mission to provide counseling and services for parents who feel overwhelmed and confused.

Country

Appalachia

Our construction teams have helped Mountain Outreach with community revitalization efforts to repair homes and churches in SE Kentucky and East Tennessee.

Southeast Kentucky

When Southeast Kentucky was ravaged by historic flooding in 2022, our members traveled to Calvary Campus in Letcher to distribute food, do cleanup work, and share Jesus through VBS.

Pacific Northwest

Wildfires destroyed Mt. Horeb Baptist Church of Mill City, Oregon back in 2020. Several churches in East Tennessee sent crews to rebuild their sanctuary. Our members poured the foundation and framed the structure in one week.

Continents

Guatemala

Members restored and stabillized a building for Iglesia Bautista Antioquia (Antioch Baptist Church) in Guatemala City.
Pray for Pastor Essio Ramirez Azurdia and his flock.

Ecuador

In 2025, members of our congregation travel to Cayambe, Ecuador to minister along side Pastor David Meyer in his church plant, Iglesia Biblica Buen Pastor (Church of the Good Shepherd).

Kenya

Our Elders have made many trips to Salama, Kenya to preach and baptize in remote areas and to support Salama Kenya Baptist Ministries. Pray for Pastor Moses Makuthi and his mother Grace Nzioka.

Why Missions?

Last year, we sent 23.4% of all gifts received to compassion and evangelistic missions around the world through Southern Baptist mission organizations and through direct support given to our ministry partners.

Jesus has commanded His followers to “go and make disciples of all nations” (Matt 28:19). So we believe every Christian has a part to play in spreading the gospel to people who have never heard it. We do this either by going in person or by sending and supporting others who do.

Our part in the redemption plan is to proclaim a clear Gospel as it is found in the Word of God. (Romans 10:17)  God is holy and righteous in his judgment of mankind's sin. Our sin brings a death sentence with it - it always has. (Gen 2:17,  Romans 6:23)
Man cannot save himself (Titus 3:5) So, Christ came in flesh to offer an atoning sacrifice once and for all (Hebrews 10:10). It is God who draws us to Christ (John 6:44) and opens our hearts to respond to the Gospel. (Acts 16:14)

A person being brought out of spiritual darkness into the light of Christ (Eph 5:8) is an act of grace for God's glory alone. The entire Bible is meant to bring maximum glory to the Most High God, who delights in displaying both his mercy and his justice at the cross of Christ.

Resident Missionaries

Mike and Rita Sanders

God called Mike and Rita into full-time Gospel Ministry in 2013 while they were living in Overland Park, Kansas and serving with the North American Mission Board.

In June of 2021 the Lord directed them to Powell to become a part of International Awakening Ministries and to help Mike’s mentor, Richard Owen Roberts,
in his final years of ministry.

God has placed in them a burden for spiritually deceived people who are placing their hope in church membership and "being a good person" instead of a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and rebirth from above.

Their ministry consists of evangelizing the lost and edifying the believers. They have worked in several churches in the U.S. and a few overseas.

Mike and Rita have three grown children who are all married and serving the Lord. They have given their parents sixteen grandchildren.
