The second Advent candle represents love. Scottish pastor and theologian Sinclair Ferguson wrote, "The greater the lover, the greater the love." When we speak of the love shown in John 3:16, we see that "God" (the greatest of Lovers) "so loved" (showing the greatest love) "the world" (the least lovable) "that He gave his only begotten Son." Which tells us there is no greater expression of love than the Father giving the Son to sinners who are perishing.
